Remove the unlawful reclamation!
It could be a problem, once I see myself as an artist, for then I will not know when my art making starts, and when it stops. I was in the Basic Law Library at City Hall this afternoon, looking up various books and documents, and finally came up with the idea of making a banner with its resource and photocopying machine.

Death, and/as Shift of Knowledge Paradigm
Got a email from a friend, who forwarded me the news of Rudolf Arnheim having passed away lately. (NYT obituary here) Yet he added a line: if I care to know. Well that's probably very true, for when Richard Wollheim died a few years old, I felt he has at least coined minimalism, but for Arnheim, I could only think of his Art and Visual Perception, and guess you all know that I hate to think of art in a visual way, but he did venture into visual as thinking beyond the stylistic, that's true.
Thomas Kuhn often for example refers to Gestalt theory in his idea of the paradigmatic shift. I on the other hand also learn one thing, and that is what is taught and passes on in the academy might not be as well rational as we like to think it is, and depends on what the teachers could offer, and what teachers are on offer (I guess Kuhn mentions it too, how one have to wait till all the professors in a certain paradigm is all dead, for the shift to be possible). As for my case, I took the last course in Anthropoplgy department on Structuralism, before the lecturer retired and went back to Taiwan. When no students pick this up and return to teach it, the acadmeic fashion of Structuralism is officially dead, as of a natural cause. That's however always stay as a part of me.

final vocabularies
Author of "Contingency, Irony, and Solidarity" (1989), Richard Rorty passed away last week. Cos of talking over the end of art history, I recently mentioned the Taiwan Man Ray and his talks in Hong Kong for several times. Seldom do people know that he is also the translator for "Contingency, Irony, and Solidarity" into Chinese.

a PS window on US PC phenomenon
A promise is a promise. finally has to part with my book Paul Chan Martha Rosler of the Between Artists series bought at Printed Matter in Chelsea, N.Y., but this could be a piece of political art work too. For in the future one could find it in AAA. Let the archive be a seed bed.
Though AAA accepted my proposal for Hong Kong Art History, but my mini exhibition project proposed for them was originally in a series, and one of them is the United State's PC Phenomenon (in Chinese it is Paul Chan在美國有多紅?), unfortunately, they don't like this idea. I originally asked Christina for some PS invitation cards of Paul Chan, hoping to built a Paul Chan Gallery at mMK, yet as I was asked recently to hand in the books again after so long delay, so this is a compromised version of the mini exhibition that could not be realized, but wish it a fruitful afterlife of its own.
A New Central Waterfront campiagn
New rezoning request for the Central Waterfront
designinghongkong has applied for twenty-three amendments to be made to the Outline Zoning Plans for the Central Waterfront.
We consider the changes fundamental. They increase competition, improve vibrancy, create visual corridors, allow better air ventilation, reduce land for surface roads, extend the tram network to the waterfront and enable the Star Ferry Clock Tower and Queen's Pier to be put back in their original location.
It is critical to review the plans and not just the design, because without future reclamation this is the last chance to get the final harbour-front done right in Central.
We have broken up the two key sites: The groundscraper and the festival market. Not only does this create a better urban environment, it will make Central more diverse. Rather than having two developers control the area, our plan will allow at least five developers to own a part of the Central Waterfront and compete with each in attracting residents, businesses and tourists.
We acknowledge that the proposals reduce the overall gross floor area and premium income potential, and that the changes will require the Administration to revisit previous assumptions. However, this short term loss will be more than compensated for by the economic benefits of the improved quality of life in the long term.
In summary, the proposed amendments are:
Reduce maximum height of new buildings between IFC and the Ferry Piers;
Convert the Statue Square Corridor into a park.
this will also allow the Star Ferry Clock Tower to be returned to its former location;
Split the groundscraper into 3 separate smaller buildings;
Split the festival market into 2 separate smaller buildings;
Reduce the width of road P2;
Re-instate Queen's Pier and Edinburgh Place in their present location;
Convert the western section of the PLA barracks to open space;
Built a pier for the PLA to free up the harbour-front;
Reduce the size of the new buildings in front of the APA;
Reserve land for a tram along the waterfront.

vulgar
cause my article Luke asked me to write appeared on today's Ming Pao, I brought a copy. I seldom read it, even the Sunday pages with artists input. But as I went through the paper, and I found (yes, to my surprise) the entertainment section quite as cheap and vulgar as the other papers (or I shouldn't say so for they might probably be even worst?).
