use Italy as example, back to the postwar time, under a tense and central-powered context, ironic laughters (playful) in cinema, theatre and comics is a powerful way / channel for artists to work out their political point of views. "Playful" is a very tatic, usual, effective and of course a funny way/element to spread ideas among the public. I think it especially works in highly consumerized context like HK and U.S. For me, Thomas Hirscchorn's work also has playful elements, take "playful" seriously but not take "seriousiness" playful, isn't it another understanding of "make art politically, but not make political art"?
